Seeking Volunteers for the Founding Editorial Board
We are looking for volunteers for our Founding Editorial Board! Come help shape the future of the ASV’s new academic journal.
As a member of the Editorial Board, you will act as an ambassador for the journal and advise the Editor in Chief. Specific duties include:
- Advising on the direction for the journal and helping set editorial policy
- Identifying new topics for commissions and special editions
- Making suggestions for both subject matter and potential authors
- Providing content by writing occasional editorials and articles
- Approaching potential contributors
- Providing peer review or helping to identify peer reviewers
- Endorsing and promoting the journal to authors and readers
- Encouraging colleagues to submit their best work
We are looking for people with expertise in any of the following areas:
- Epidemiology of health events relevant to companion animal population medicine
- Animal behavior and the human-animal bond as it relates to animal adoption, relinquishment, and surrender prevention
- Access to veterinary care, spectrum of care, High-Quality High-Volume sterilization surgery, community medicine
- Management and programmatic practices such as transport, Return to Field, adoption policies
- Animal welfare in shelters and communities
- Shelter forensics and humane investigation
- Disaster response

Qualifications
- Hold an advanced degree such as DVM/VMD, Masters, or PhD
- Have a minimum of three years experience relevant to at least one of our areas of desired expertise
- Have experience in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research design and analysis
- Affiliation with an accredited college or university preferred
Expectations
- Return reviews within six weeks of receipt
- Offer constructive and encouraging feedback to mentor fellow researchers
- Attend yearly editorial board meeting (travel support provided if in person)
Members of the editorial review board serve a three-year term, renewable once, and can anticipate being asked to review four to eight manuscripts per year. Opportunities for associate editors for several of the areas of expertise are planned. Founding Editorial Board members should expect several virtual meetings and requests for feedback before the first issue to build and refine journal policy and direction. There will be additional opportunities for persons interested in helping to develop specific aspects of journal policy, such as style guides and author instructions.
