Membership Types
Membership is open to qualified individuals who are actively involved in virology research, teaching, or administration.
Both Associate and Student memberships require this verification letter (click to download) be signed to verify position and status in the laboratory.

APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP
Applications for membership should be made online by clicking the "ASV Membership Application" button, below. This application form should be accompanied by a curriculum vitae or NIH biosketch (for Full membership), or a letter or form documenting the individual’s position as postdoctoral associate, research staff, or student. Membership in the Society is not effective until payment of the annual dues is received.
Waived Membership Dues: Waived membership is available to applicants performing research activities in low to middle-income countries as defined by Wellcome using criteria from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Pricing: Adjustments may be made for unique circumstances on a case by case basis.
Refund Policy: All transactions are final. In the event your application has been denied, or in the event of a billing error, a refund will be issued.

Reinstatement
The Council may reinstate a former member upon such terms and conditions as it may deem appropriate. Reinstatement (without having to reapply for membership) is allowed only if the member is delinquent in the payment of dues for no more than 3 years (2 past years plus the current year) AND the member provides payment of the delinquent and current years dues. Members delinquent in the payment of dues for more than 2 years plus the current year must reapply for membership and submit the required documentation.
Resignation
Any member may resign upon written notification to the Council, at [email protected], whereupon such resignation shall be considered effective immediately.
Expulsion or Suspension
The Council shall have the power, by a two-thirds vote of the entire Council, to suspend or expel any member for conduct prejudicial to the interest of the Society, provided that any such member shall have received at least thirty days' notice of the time and place of a hearing by the Council upon any charges of such conduct, together with a copy of the charges against such member, at which hearing such member shall have an appropriate opportunity to be heard; provided also Article VII, Section 3, of the By-Laws shall govern any expulsion of a member for non-payment of dues.
